First, I may be biased, because I’ve been going to Holman Valley since I was a kid, but I love Holman Valley Steakhouse. Easily the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had, the fried catfish is outstanding, the fried okra is delicious, and the onion rings are awesome. It’s also worth noting that they don’t over salt the food - it’s just right. The wait staff is friendly and welcoming, and, in this time of COVID, totally professional. Masks and gloves are worn - I feel more comfortable with their level of hygiene than I do with just about any other restaurant I’ve gotten take out from in recent memory. I honestly can’t recommend them highly enough. Great food, great service, zero complaints!

Location is off the beaten path, about 6 miles from Weimer and 13 miles from La Grange. This is a 100+ year old General Store that's been converted into a restaurant and dance hall. Only open Thursday - Saturday for dinner and Sunday's for lunch. The screen doors as you enter remind you of days gone by as do the latches on the bathroom doors. The have a good selection of wines and beers and the food reminds you of Grandma's cooking. Look up on the chalk boards on the wall to see what soups, sides and desserts are being served. The chicken fried steak is delicious as was everything we tried. A must try is the Sausage Sauerkraut Balls and if you like yellow squash - the squash casserole will hit the spot. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The owner swings through the dining room ever so often to make sure her guests are being taken care of. It looks like she oversees the kitchen as well. Almost forgot, the Buttermilk Pie is just like Grandma's too, crust and filling! ...
